Stay warm with these cozy crochet gloves. Simple and quick to make these little mittens are perfect for the confident beginner.
For this pattern I have used one ball of Rico Creative Melange Chunky 50g and a 6mm hook but any chunky yarn will do.
I am using UK crochet terms
To begin you are going to work a simple crochet rib which will be the cuff.
Chain 7, turn and into the second chain from hook work 1 dc.
Work 1 dc in each stitch = 6dc
*Turn and do not make a chain but simply work slip stitch into each stitch to end = 6 slip stitch.
Chain 1 and turn. Now work 1 dc into back of the stitch (as in picture below) Repeat to end = 6 dc **
Repeat from * to ** until you have 26 rows.
At the end of the 26th row join the two ends together with a slip stitch to begin working in the round.
Chain 1 and into same stitch that you worked the slip stitch work 1 dc.
Continue to work 1 dc into each 'stitch' (you need to make these initial stitches) making 26 stitches in total.
Having worked 26 dc, continue in the round (ie don't turn your work) and join with a slip stitch into the ch 1 stitch as shown with the needle below.
Join with slip stitch and ch 1. Continue to work 1 dc into each stitch the first stitch being right next to the hook as shown below = 26 dc.
Continue to work in the round this way until you have worked 8 rows
At the end of the 8th row don't join with a slip stitch. Chain 1 and turn.
*Work 1dc into each stitch = 26dc.
Ch 1 and turn.**
Repeat 3 more times = 4 rows. This makes the thumb hole!
At the end of the 4th row join with a slip stitch to resume working in the round.
Ch 1, skip next stitch, work 6 dc and decrease 1, work 9 dc and decrease 1, continue to end = 23 stitches.
Repeat this row again = 20 stitches.
The final two rows are going to be worked in half treble crochet basket weave stitch as follows.
Chain 2, work 1 half treble into each stitch = 20 htr
Join slip stitch into 2nd chain
Work *1 front post half treble followed by 1 back post half treble**.
Repeat from * to ** 9 times and join with a slip stitch into 2nd chain of the chain 2 that started this round.
Cast off and sew in loose ends.
Making the thumb
Cast on yarn into stitch at base of thumb hole
chain 1 and make 10 dc (just like we did with the cuff)
Join into ch 1 with a slip stitch
Chain 1, skip next stitch and work 1 dc into each stitch = 9 dc.
Cast off and sew in ends.
